This class involves drawing skills using a variety of materials. Some of the subjects covered will be faces, moody landscapes, buildings, texture drawing and dramatic lighting effects. The Incredible Art of Dr. Snowflake / Wassenberg Art Center / 1 - 5 PM

Five years ago the Wassenberg Art Center exhibited the incredible art of Dr. Snowflake. Hundreds of people came, saw and were astonished at the delicately cut paper snowflakes that told stories, illustrated Bible verses, and had hundreds of hidden silhouettes that brought people back to look, and look again. Now he returns with a whole new array of paper snowflakes. These are not ordinary paper snowflakes. Dr. Snowflake (Thomas Clark MD of Ann Arbor, Mich.) uses precision tools – many of which he has made himself – to cut tiny, detailed silhouettes into lacy paper snowflakes. His work has been exhibited all over Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, including the prestigious Toledo Museum of Art. Some of his holiday-themed snowflakes have been reproduced in metal and sold on QVC as Christmas ornaments. This free exhibit is sponsored by First Federal Savings & Loan, and Time Warner Cable. "Kitchen Witches" / Van Wert Civic Theatre / 8 PM

The Van Wert Civic Theatre continues its 49th season by presenting "Kitchen Witches", a comedy by Caroline Smith. Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two "mature" cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food. Trying to keep them on track is a losing battle, but the show becomes a ratings smash that tops both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer. Lay Witness Mission / Trinity UM Church / 6:30 PM

Trinity's United Methodist Church will be hosting a Lay Witness Mission on February 15, 16, & 17th. The Lay Witness Mission (LWM) is a team-led weekend renewal event where lay people tell of their experiences in their faith journey with God. Activites are planned for children, youth, and adults beginning this evening with a meal at 6:30 PM, followed by group meetings at 7:30 PM. Additional events are planned for Saturday and sunday. The younger brother of folk-pop superstar, James Taylor, Livingston is quite a musician and entertainmer in his own right. "The Amorous Ambassador" / Van Wert Civic Theatre / 8 PM

For their 4th production of the current season, the Van Wert Civic Theatre presents "The Amorous Ambassador", an American Farce written by Michael Parker. When Harry Douglas, the new American Ambassador to Great Britain, tells his family that he is going to Scotland to play golf, his wife and daughter announce weekend plans of their own. The newly hired butler watches stoically as each leaves and secretly returns for a romantic rendezvous in the empty house. One of the biggest selling Rock Bands in Christian Music history, Pillar, takes the stage tonight at 7 PM. Their most recent release For the Love of the Game was the feature song of ESPN's 2007 World Series. The evening will also feature Building 429and rising stars Brooke Barrettsmith and Wavorly. The Van Wert Youth Net will host a Guitar Hero Contest for junior high and high school age youth in the Van Wert High School Commons that afternoon with four divisions. It's Harry Ripley's birthday. Detective John Fieldstone has been summoned to the Ripley Mansion. Could someone's life be in danger? YOU become the detective and help solve the crime. Southern Gospel Music Expo / Trinity Friends Church / 7 PM

The 7th annual Southern Gospel Music Expo, hosted by the group Trinity, will be held April 3, 4 ,5 and 6 at the Trinity Friends Church Family Life Center in Van Wert. More than 30 groups and artists from around the country will take part. Sunday’s finale concert at 6:30 will feature the Booth Brothers and Roy Webb, former pianist for the Signature Sound Quartet. Other special guests include Garry Sheppard, former tenor for the Kingsmen Quartet, John Darin Rowsey, formerly with Karen Peck and New River, and Buddy Liles, former bass with the Florida Boys Quartet. Off-Stage Productions, a non-profit community based dinner theatre, presents "The Second Time Around" a comedy by Henry Denker. Widowed seniors find romance in their golden years, but when they decide to introduce each other to their adult children, they meet with a wall of resistance and disapproval. Although the children's own marriages are anything but perfect, they don't hesitate to give relationship advice to their parents! The play will be presented at the Van Wert Armory located at 214 S. Esther Ley, Pat Pancake, and Gertrude Sluterbeck are well-respected local artists who have been involved with the Wassenberg Art Center and the Van Wert County Art Club for decades. They have been pillars of the art center's Annual June Show preparations and presentation, and have exhibited and won awards in art shows all over the area. These versatile artists are experienced in a number of different media. although each has a "specialty". This exhibit spotlights their work over the years and gives them well-deserved recognition for their participation and support of our community's art activities. For its final production of the 2007/08 season, the Van Wert Civic Theatre presents Nunsensations: The Nunsense Vegas Revue, written by Dan Goggin. When a parishioner volunteers to donate $10,000 to the sisters' school if they will perform in a club in Las Vegas, Mother Superior is hesitant to accept. However, after being convinced by the other sisters that "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," Reverend Mother agrees. What follows is the most feather-filled, sequin-studded, fan-dancing Nunsense show ever! Wesley United Methodist Church is having an outdoor event presented by the Wesley Men's Club. This event has the makings for a wonderful evening!. It's at the church's own park, Wesley Park, located at the corner of Blaine and Anderson in Van Wert. This event will be a high-caliber Southern Gospel concert provided by the Songsters Quartet & Bill Schell. The concert is free, but they will be taking a love offering for the groups. Food will be available for a donation that will go for the church's Parks-Recreation-and-Outreach programs for the community. Bring the family, friends, and lawn chairs for a fantastic fun- filled evening.

In 1891, Ohio City native, John Lambert, was driving America’s first successful gasoline-powered automobile on the streets of this village. This small Van Wert County community celebrates its role in transportation history with a weekend filled with family-fun and entertainment. “Railroad Weekend” / Van Wert County Historical Museum / 10 AM - 5 PM

The Van Wert County Historical Society commemorates the significance of the railroad to the settlement and development of Northwest Ohio. Model trains layouts, including O/HO/N gauge, will be on display as will other railroad memorabilia. Other events include speakers, a swap meet, good food, and a Hobo Camp complete with Hobo Stew and other food items. No admission charge. The Museum is located at 602 N. Washington Street. Antique Tractor Ride / Van Wert County Fairgrounds / 8 AM - 6 PM

The Van Wert County Historical Society presents the Crossroads of America Festival Antique Tractor Ride as part of Van Wert's participation in the Highway 127 and Lincoln Highway Yard Sales. This event is open to individuals who own a pre-1970 rubber-tired tractor able to maintain a speed of 8 mph. Tractors will leave the fairgrounds at 8 AM and travel, via the Lincoln Highway, to Delphos where a lunch will be served. Tractors will then return to Van Wert. There will be a public tractor show from 4 - 6 pm. The Van Wert Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring this event at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds, located on U. S. 127 at the south edge of the city. Eight vendors are participating, with trophies awarded by the public and a panel of judges.
